About Our Patterns & Kits

A Word (or two)...
Since the very beginning of our endeavors in yarn design, we would ask the Knitters associated with us to create a pattern to show how a new yarn would work up. This was initially more for our own curiosity than anything else. But as they are all very talented and inventive designers, you, our customers, loved these original patterns and we soon were printing up the patterns and making kits to go-with.

As time goes on, new yarns are created and with them of course, new patterns and kits. We have quite a few now and needed to get more organized about letting you know about them. Voilá, this website!

Clearly, we mostly show the pieces knit up in a particular coloway, don’t let this limit your creativity. Feel free to substitute the colors of Your choice (unless you are buying online - but soon!).

Tips for Ordering Your Pattern
Like most yarn companies, we have these wonderful patterns created exclusively for the purpose of selling our own yarns and kits. As you may know, most companies will not sell their patterns alone for this very reason.

However, we do not want to deprive knitters of enjoying these marvelous original designs (and "tilt" for everyone’s stashes too). So we do allow you to buy them alone, but for a "Price". This to compensate us somewhat for the costs of having them created, advertised, put up on our website, etc. Also please note that they won’t look the same if not done in our yarns as you probably realize.

Do keep your receipts though. If you later decide to order the kit we will deduct the price of the pattern from your purchase. Patterns are, of course, complimentary with the kits. Patterns published in books or magazines will have to be purchased separately. Sorry! but then the publication owns them.

***NOTE: We have just made all La Lana Wools’ "pattern alone" purchases now with FREE SHIPPING***! All patterns purchased separately with free shipping will be sent by U.S. First Class Mail.

Tips For Ordering Your Kit
Since the yarns are dyed in small (3 to 4lb.) dye lots and sell quickly, it is always better to buy an extra skein or two for insurance against running out and being unable to match a dye lot. Remember, we have no orphans! Any unbroken skeins can be returned for a full refund.

Gauge! Gauge! Gauge!
The only way to insure that a handknit sweater will fit is to knit a gauge swatch. Remember the gauge is what is important, not the needle size. If you tend to knit tightly you will use more yarn. If you alter a pattern in any way you will need more yarn (especially when adding cables!) Keep this in mind when ordering. A little extra time at the beginning of a project knitting a gauge swatch will save you hours of grief at the end.
